Trafford Waters, the new £1 billion development from Peel Land and Property was last night given the green light to proceed following a meeting at Trafford Council. Trafford Waters looks set to create over 5,000 jobs in the Greater Manchester area, and will include 3,000 residential apartments, a 300 room hotel, a 150 bed care home, a primary school and a number of additional shops and commercial office spaces. Sean Anstee from Trafford Council said Trafford Waters "had all the characteristics to be a model for urban regeneration."
Trafford Waters, which has been 15 years in the making according to the developers Peel Holdings, will be situated on land adjacent to the Trafford Centre and the Manchester Ship Canal. Trafford Waters will be making use of what is currently vacant land, in a popular residential part of Manchester, and will offer residents quick and easy access to the commercial hubs of Manchester city centre, Spinningfields and Mediacity in Salford.
The new development at Trafford Waters was approved on the same day as a new £350m tramline, which will link the Trafford Centre to some of Manchester's most popular destinations.
