The picturesque coastal town of Fethiye is situated in the popular Aegean region, on the west coast of Turkey. Located on the site of the ancient city of Telmessos, there are still a number of ancient ruins in and around the modern day Fethiye which can be easily visited by tourists.
Recent years have seen a huge growth in the numbers of tourists visiting the Fethiye region, and today approximately half of the towns 68,000 population are said to work in its tourism industry. Attracted by the regions historical ruins and superb beaches, Fethiye is today one of Turkey's most visited tourist destinations, drawing visitors from both home and overseas.
Following on from this increase in the levels of tourism in Fethiye (and indeed throughout Turkey), the region has become increasingly popular with people looking to purchase property. Investors seeking to capitalise on the regions burgeoning tourist trade, and holiday makers and tourists looking to purchase a holiday home make up the majority of these international purchases.
Today, modern day Turkey is a hotbed of international property investment, and destinations such as Altinkum, Bodrum and Fethiye have become increasingly noticeable on the radar of international property investors. Following the removal in 2003 of restrictions on foreign nationals purchasing property in Turkey, it is estimated that over 60,000 properties in Turkey have been sold to foreign nationals. This huge growth in the number of properties in in Turkey being bought by overseas purchasers now amounts to over id="mce_marker"0 billion foreign direct investment.
Being one of Turkey's most popular tourist destinations has resulted in Fethiye being one of the key beneficiaries of this increase in overseas investment property in Turkey. Today, there are a large number of new property developments in Fethiye which look set to ensure that the growth in foreign direct investment in the region is set to continue.
